How can you help? Our strategy at this stage is to make the Dorset County Council aware of the opposition so that they decide to exclude this beautiful site from the next Minerals Plan. It would then make it very difficult for Aggregate Industries or any other gravel company to obtain planning permission.

It is vital that as many people as possible write to the Minerals Planning Officers at Dorset County Council and let them know that if the Phillios farm site is included in the Minerals Plan for gravel extraction, then you would object most strongly.

We have created some sample letters to assist. Please feel free to use any of these or write your own. If you use our sample letters try and change them at least a little to show they are different from others.

Please let us know what you have done by using  emailing us

You could also write to Aggregate Industries (the gravel extraction company) saying you would oppose any plans to extract  gravel from this site.
You could also write to the Landowners consisting of the Drax's (Bere Regis Estate) and the Bradfords saying how you object to gravel extraction taking place on the site.
You could write to the Forest Commission and object to the planned use of Wareham Forest

In addition you could write to members of the local councils  (local Parish, District and County), the local MP the Planning Depart at Purbeck District Council and any Conservation Groups

Please also contact and inform your friends and local groups who may be interested in objecting to this development and ask them to write also.

Environmental Agencies and Conservation groups: You can contact various environmental agencies at these addresses:

How contacting conservation organisations can help. Today, with the widespread concerns about the future of the countryside, mineral operators are taking great care to minimise the impact of their operations on the rural environment and local communities. Most have environmental codes of practice and liase with local authorities aiming to ensure that the operations are as acceptable as possible in these sensitive areas. These codes of practice are often imposed by the local authority when planning permission is granted. Inevitably though, conflicting views prevail about many of these issues. That said by providing these links we encourage you to inform, enquire or otherwise engage with as many of the conservation bodies as possible.

Rage are concerned that while the 're-instatement' plans provide [arguably] diverse enhanced alternative bio-diverse landscapes, these are by their nature are artificial and are no justification and provide no compensation for the damage already deployed on the site or that which will occur by the destruction of established hedgerows and woodlands.
